Ten dead a day. Forty days to the muster.
Winter quarters at Tolmeer, and camp fever is killing ten soldiers a day. The colonel has his orders: if the regiment cannot show six hundred fit soldiers at the spring muster in forty days, it will be broken up, and the Ninth Company with it.
Dagan Rusk must find where the fever comes from and beat it with clean water and his Lifeline. First he has to get past a proud Lampwarden who says fever is the Order's business.
